“Come, behold the works of the LORD, who has wrought desolations in the earth.” Psalm 46:8
This morning my local California sky is yellow. All sepia. No sun. No smoke smell to explain. It’s a half hour past noon and looks like early morning. Super quiet and sober-eerie.
All this drama – COVID and fires and people moving and, and, and… I’m watching and trembling. I’m in awe of God. I feel like heaven has the throne room doors closed for conference. Like God is talking strategy. While the protests and politics rage, the Trinity is scheming. Jesus is unrolling ancient scroll-plans with hands still red in the center. The passion-vision He had of us while hanging on the cross is fresh in His mind and fueling His focus. Holy Spirit is rubbing His hands together in God-anxious expectation of all He’s been waiting to do to get us ready.
Meanwhile… what of this proud and loud creature – man? Isaiah says to him, “Declare the things that are going to come afterward, that we may know that you are gods; indeed, do good or evil that we may anxiously look about us and fear together. Behold, you are of no account, and your work amounts to nothing…” (41:23, 24) Basically – “Hey hot shot, big guy, loud bluff. Say something that can actually be counted on. You’re so big? So, what’s the plan, little god? What rock-solid designs are you pulling off while we all stand in awe? Huh? What kind of anything can you actually guarantee? Nothing.”
The purposes of God stand from generation to generation. They persist and even increase when challenges rage. Nothing uproots them. When pruned, they spring back multiplied and healthy. Like a winding spiral, they circle, building with each ascending circuit. The gates of hell will not prevail. Jesus’ prayers for unity and love-knowing are still on His lips – determining moments, days, years, the future.
In this current season of hush and raging, I want to encourage you to put your ear to the door of heaven. To listen. Don’t waste your time getting petitions signed on earth to present to God, to sway Him with your agenda. Even if you believe your ideas will save the world. “Do not be hasty in word or impulsive in thought to bring up a matter in the presence of God. For God is in heaven and you are on the earth; therefore let your words be few.” Eccl. 5:2
Let’s listen and find our hearts passionately beating in time with the inner and eternal Heart of Glory. With purposes as sure as the rising of the sun. The cross and resurrection have set in motion a future that prevails. Even if we can’t translate it into words, let’s hear the giant beating heart of God and find ourselves captivated in awe.
My dearest Cdawn….Thank you for sharing these welcomed words… I just saw this writing of your thoughts… Now, I know more of why you brought up the times we are in right now, the election coming up, wondering what out thoughts were… I want to know God’s thoughts concerning these times we find ourselves… He has given us life and breath for such a time as this.. He has the Answers. HE is the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE… He knows all; I long to hear His voice concerning these things that are so troubling to us as humans. May the Spirit of God Almighty, Who lives inside of us RISE UP within us with wisdom and a voice for such a time as this… May God Almighty be Glorified in His people. I think of Jesus’ prayer when he was just about to die on the cross… Lord God, I know You heard Jesus’ prayer, and because He prayed it, it will happen. That we would be one, as He and the Father are one. Lord, I know all of this division in Your Body must be grievous to You… Lord, we long for the Unity that You had prayed in one of your darkest hours. We are in a dark place. May Your Light Shine among Your Own…, in the midst of such darkness and turmoil. Light us on fire for You and Your will and purpose in these days ahead, and “for such a time as this”…. Keep speaking Truth and Life dearest Cdawn…. Love you SO!!!
